Northwest Arkansas Association of the Deaf (NWAAD) was established around 1975 by a group of deaf persons. Their goal was to have a monthly gathering of deaf persons in order to preserve their language and their culture. We became incorporated in 2003.
NWAAD, as a non-profit, tax exempt (501.C.3) association, is supported by its members and others who interested in furthering NWAAD's goals.
Membership is open to any persons who is Deaf and Hard Of Hearing; parents of Deaf and Hard of Hearing children; professionals who work with the Deaf and Hard Of Hearing children, youth, and adults; and ANY other individuals interested in supporting NWAAD's goals.
NWAAD is governed by an Executive Board elected by the general membership at the association's annual meetings. The Executive Board is made up of officers all whom serve on a voluntary basis and the majorities are Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
